Become a great leader

To become a great leader, one must learn many skills. Leadership and followership have some of the same qualities however; there are some differences that this document will give a better explanation of understanding. These two roles are very important and effective for the success of the team. Servant Leadership is being a servant first. Followership is being willing to do the work that needs done no matter the task. Followership and Servant Leadership alike want to do the best for the team. Servant Leadership will actively listen to the team members to make adjustments when necessary. An effective follower listens to the guidance of the leader and embodies the professionalism of the leader. Leaders and followers are well-spoken and carry out military values knowing they are the example. Both roles are interested in the morale and proficiency of the team.  In servant leadership, you show interest in your team’s needs, the growth of your members, and achieving tasks to quality standards. Your team will function well if they feel they heard and you meet the needs of all the members’. Followership goals are the overall goal of the team. When someone operates with effective followership in mind will work with the team and have a voice for the team when leadership has a faulty plan. Within a team, you need a leader and you need followers. A team of followers will not work well together because no one has taken initiative to delegate tasks. Not all members are fit to lead. There are so many dynamics to a team that such roles have to be established. Members of a team want to follow a leader. Leaders not only lead but also they put the welfare of the members as a priority and can help member’s hardships through advice or referral. When you take time to know and help your members they will be more inclined to complete their tasks proficiently.  Great leaders are first great followers. Leaders can produce passive followers and followers with no motivation. However, servant leaders will produce effective and active followers. When leaders and followers have respect for one another, working together will be effortless. Leadership and followership go hand in hand. Good leadership creates good followership. Power can easily corrupt a leader when they are not prepared for the role. Becoming a servant leader allows you to relate to your team, show empathy and understand your members, which builds a foundation for success.  Followers appreciate the respect, guidance and connection they have with leadership and are able to perform to the highest standards. Followers and leaders alike build each-other.
